Ramadan and consumerism: a platform for an ideological conflict

The holy month Ramadan is the month for introspection, self thinking et cetera. The entire Muslim world is going to get ready for welcoming the Quran. They clean their residence, place et cetera with best effort and willingness. Ramadan is the month of battle against evils and sins. It is sure that the warfare of Ramadan will increase day by day without any distortions.

Ramadan and consumerism: two conflicting poles

The modern society had bestowed the ideology of consumerism, which can even destroy the spirit of Ramadan completely. This deteriorates the warfare of Ramadan. Most of the Muslims confounded this dangerous ideology. The consumerism was mingled in the life of Human as culture. This resulted in the loss of some important traditions which we keep close in our hearts.

Mostly in Ramadan, the consumerist tendencies are widely seen. The aim of fasting which is the battle against the body itself is failing automatically by the increasing consumerist tendency of believer. Most of the Muslims give importance to Ifthar than fasting. Their endeavor is to design the tables not to pray for Allah.

One of the important aspects of consumerism is shopping. The shopping rejuvenated as a festival that keeps away the minds of believer from Ramadan by roaming in towns. This possesses a great threat towards the belief of Islam. The consumerism which has a great look on Muslims is likely to be emerged against the Islamic belief.

Consumerism: what we can do?

Fasting in the ultra secular society is not only a battle against bodily evils, but also a battle against consumerist tendencies. The term consumerism in Ramadan was motivated to counter the Muslim beliefs. Most of are not aware about the danger aspects of consumerism. So it’s the duty of propagators to understand the side effects of consumerism and to prevent it from destructing the Muslim beliefs.
